Annuals: Most Annuals provide the garden with brilliant color and continuous blooming flowers for one entire growing season. Here in NH, and all of New England most annuals are killed by frost at the end of the growing season. There are a few that re-seed themselves but for the most part, you’ll need to replace them every spring. In spring and summer we carry inexpensive flats of annuals sold in four pack or six pack seedling cells. Of course we also sell a wide assortment of more mature potted annuals including Proven Winners. All are available in many varieties and dazzling colors. They can be planted close together in containers or in the ground for fabulous, colorful mass displays that last through the entire growing season.

Helpful Hints: No one enjoys buying plants just to have them struggle along looking sickly or fail. Always buy the healthiest plants. Our Proven Winner Annuals are top quality. It’s also very important to buy plants that match the growing conditions. For example Impatiens, Fushia, New Guinea Impatiens, and Caladium would likely scorch in hot sun all day, but thrive in a cool, moist, shady planting area. Planting tags and our knowledgeable sales staff are a source of helpful horticultural information. Bring some pictures of your intended planting area, and we’ll be happy to help you with your selections and plant combinations.

Planting Annuals: Since annuals only live for the one season, they do not develop very deep root systems and therefore they do need very frequent watering and fertilizing. To ensure optimal plant health, always mix compost, Soil Moist and slow release fertilizer into the soil at root level during planting. See our Planting How To page for more detailed information.

There are many uses for Annuals: Patio Pots, entryway plantings, border edge plantings, ground cover to fill in barren areas, window boxes, cutting gardens, focal point planting area, hanging baskets, cemetery planting, gift planters, attract butterfly's and hummingbirds, dress up the yard before a party or wedding, fill in bare spaces while newly planted small shrubs grow up, fill bare space when spring bulbs have finished flowering.
